Do You Know “How To Twitter”?

Using the Internet to build a business is not always an easy road as some would think. There is a lot of dedication and determination to get your business going, and along with faith and action it can be done in a rather short time compared to an offline business.
Sometimes it is important to take some time and recognize the hard work and determination of others especially when they are building their business, putting the hard work into it and also taking time out to help others. Meeting people has been great in this line of work and I have met a lot of people here on line and in the forums who fit this very profile but one individual especially sticks out in my mind as he has been very informative in the use of Twitter and how it can be a mind blowing tool to use for your business.
Not only has he mastered the use of twitter himself but he has also taken the time to help others use this tool to their own benefit and increase their exposure on twitter – no strings attached help that is.
I introduce to you Mike Robbins of Launch Reporter and Body Solid Fitness. Recently in one of his posts at The IM University Forum Mike started a thread on the very subject Twitter – this very thread seems to be taking on a life of its own and growing daily. It is becoming a great resource for all Internet Veterans as well as newbies to refer to.
The amount of information in this one thread is amazing – no need to buy any products off the Internet as it is all there. I mentioned to Mike that he should create a product from this thread but to date I don’t believe he has, however if the day comes that Mike decides to take on such a project, it would be the only twitter product, you would need to help you succeed in your business.
Today I wanted to share some excerpts from the thread which is only a very small part of the thread but definitely worth reviewing – this could be the start on twitter you need or have been looking for, so here goes:
For new tweeters a couple things you should know.
Twitter is powerful if you employ some basic daily tactics. If you’re just getting started and you’re just sending tweets to your best friend in the coffee shop you might be missing out on the real power of twitter.
Here’s some basic facts to live by:
- Be transparent–TOTALLY transparent. Talk about your life, your family, your work. Be detailed and honest. Tell them about good days and bad. Show them what it’s like to be in your shoes. Your followers want to know about YOU–not just your products or services. So give them that insight. Then when the time comes to promote, you’ll find a much easier road in front of you.
- Tweet early and often. One of the best ways to do this is to download a free desktop program called TweetDeck. This is a powerful way to stay on top of what’s happening with your followers (especially the ones you’re looking to JV with) and keep tabs on who’s talking about you–without logging in and out all the time.
- Re-tweet constantly. Re-tweeting (or RT) is a fast, easy way to pass along something valuable you’ve found in another tweet by simply clicking on an icon. This is giving back in its purest form, a way to share the best information with your followers without asking for anything in return. And it WORKS. Re-tweet the good stuff and you’ll soon have a huge group of prospects who know, like and trust you.Twitter is here to stay, and if you are going to sell on the Internet you need to learn it, and use it every day
The Top 7 Mistakes New Twitter Users Make:
- not completing a bio
- protecting updates, but complaining about no followers
- no updates, but complaining about no followers
- carrying on long conversations between 2 users
- making the text unreadable — their background colors make it impossible to read
- over doing RSS twitter feed — the point of twitter is conversation
- no avatar — the default brown avatar is a death sentence on getting followers.
Make sure you’re not doing these and you’re in the game as they say.
